Long before Rainbowmachine was an album, it behaved more like weather. Songs would disappear for years and then return unchanged. Melodies stayed suspended in the background of daily life. Ideas that seemed forgotten would suddenly reappear asking for attention. The chorus at the center of the title track lived in Jonah Matranga’s head for nearly thirty years before finally finding somewhere to land. Eventually enough of these songs arrived at once that ignoring them stopped being an option.

Rainbowmachine became a place where old ideas could meet new people. Some of the musicians involved had never met when recording began. Some recorded their parts separately, without hearing what came before. Somehow they all ended up inside the same picture.

Produced, recorded, and mixed by Jay Maas and mastered by Dave McNair, Rainbowmachine is Jonah Matranga’s first rock record in more than twenty years — a collection of songs that spent years quietly waiting for the right moment to exist.
